I’ve been trying to get a grip on the powerful Unity 3D Physics Engine. Here is a short list of resources that I have found to be helpful.
- Unity for Flash Developers Tutorial 6- Basic Physics- I actually recommend going through the whole Unity 3D For Flash Developers series these short video tutorials because they will get you familiar with a lot of the Unity concepts quickly
- Unity Manual- Physics get familiar with the terminology. This also contains some tips on when to Make a Rigid body Kinematic and when to go with a static
- Unity: Physics the Right Way- Video from Unite Conference presented by FlashBang Studios
- Making Physics Feel Good-Video and presentation notes From Unite 2007 Conference
- Unity Manual- Rigid Bodies- You can’t have physics without rigid bodies- duh!!
- Rigid Body Scripting- Lists the properties and functions that yu can use from your script to manipulate rigid bodies
- Unity 3D Platform Game Tutorial- Go ahead. Dive on in! This tutorial walks you through a lot of the concepts and vocab that should be familiar after having read /skimmed the resources above. This hands on tutorial also introduces many new concepts in context so you have a better chance of remembering what they do. Besides you end up building a pretty neat game!
- Play Around with Constant Force This is also addressed in the Unity for Flash Developers series.
- Rag Doll Wizard- Because I couldn’t just leave you hanging after the rag doll demo above- check out Unity’s rag doll generation wizard. You’ll need to import a character from another 3D Program like Maya, Cinema4D or Blender. I haven’t made it around to using this yet so leave a comment if you have.
- Places to download rigged 3d characters for free- In case you don’t feel like spending the week learning how to create and rig 3D Characters
- Getting Tricky With Triggers – From Blurst / FlashBang Studios- Explains some tricks of the trade and list some techniques with Colliders and triggers in Unity 3D
- Proximity Detection With Triggers- From Arges Systems- explains use of OnTriggerEnter() and OnTriggerExit() for proximity detection- includes Sample source code
- Physics in Unity 3D and Much More from Melissa Church Video Collection
